To many people, the death penalty isn't humane and shouldn't be used. Prominent reasons include the lack of reversibility. For example, if the person was already killed and later proven innocent, you can't reverse the death penalty. Numbers of worldwide organizations are pushing for the abolition of the death penalty.
Retribution
Supporters of the death penalty say that it's justified morally when a murderer murders a law officer. child murder, torture murder, multiple homicide, and mass killing (terrorism, massacre, and genocide). Robert Blecker, a New York Law School professor, says that a punishment should be proportional to the crime committed. In contrast, an 18th century philosopher, Immanuel Kant, says that any loss of life isn't comparable to jail time and anyone who commits murder should be killed too. Abolitionists conclude that retribution is just a form of revenge and can't be condoned.
Human Rights
Abolitionists are against the death penalty mainly because of the violation of the right to live. Many abolitionists call the death penalty "cruel, inhuman, and is a degrading punishment." In 1965, Albert Camus wrote in his book, "An execution is not simply death. It is just as different from the privation of life as a concentration camp is from prison. For there to be an equivalency, the death penalty would have to punish a criminal who had warned his victim of the date at which he would inflict a horrible death on him and who, from that moment onward, had confined him at his mercy for months. Such a monster is not encountered in private life."
Some people like the death penalty because if just fining a criminal for murder or anything related, the criminal won't feel obligated to follow the law and might continue to kill because it's just money. But the death penalty stops the criminal from ever killing and lessens the murder rate.
